Who knew adding a few comic strip characters could give a book such a unique feel? The book is loaded with these weird side conversations between the author and the readers that give the book such a strangely schizophrenic feel. The author also visualizes a number of conversations between characters within the book, like they're acting out a play inside your book. There's this one crazy scene with two 19th century senators creating the homestead act as a plan to kill all the immigrants, and I can't help but feel some of that is still going on today. The book says Midwestern living, but it really satirizes a wide array of subjects. Fun book. Thanks.Product details

I have to say I never thought the Midwest was even remotely interesting, but to hear there's a mashed-potato wrestling event in South Dakota, where do I sign up?? The format of the book is pretty unique with "Rufus" having conversations with comic strip versions of audience members. Some of the humor was a bit fringe for me because I can't really relate to some of the things in the book. Maybe that's the point, though, to "learn" me. Didn't quite work, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. A perfect gift for the Midwesterner in your life (as long as they have a sense of humor!!!).
